Kabul (Afghanistan) – Three Afghan children were killed as a result of explosion of an IED in southern Kandahar today.
They children had found the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on a road in Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province.
Unknown to them and regarding it a toy, they played with the bomb until it went off, resulting in immediate death of all three.
A security official in Kandahar today said that these bombs are often made by Anti Government Elements (AGEs) and are planted on roadsides to attack foreign military convoys.
Earlier this month another roadside IED explosion killed 4 children and wounded two others in southern Helmand province.
The bomb was set on a roadside in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province and went off when one of the children stepped on it.
Four children were subsequently immediately killed, and two others were wounded.
An ISAF medical evacuation team transported the wounded to an ISAF medical facility for treatment.
