ISAF seizes narcotics worth USD 350 million in Southern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (Sep. 28) – NATO-led ISAF Forces in Afghanistan on Monday seized a huge narcotics cashe in Baghran district, Helmand province, the forces said in a statement.

The narcotics seizure is reportedly the largest ever made by combined forces in Afghanistan. The largest before this one was in the same province with street value of $300 million.

“The combined force, acting on intelligence, targeted an area believed to be manufacturing drugs used to finance lethal aid for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.  The security force discovered three narcotics laboratories containing drugs with an estimated street value in excess of $350 million (USD)” A statement from ISAF Joint Command said on Wednesday.

As of the statement, along with the narcotics labs, approximately “1,815 gallons (6,870 L) of morphine solution, 220 pounds (100 kgs) of heroin, 176 pounds (80 kgs) of opium, 26,543 pounds (12,065 kgs) of chemicals used to process narcotics and a quantity of drug processing equipment” were also destroyed in the same operation. Click here for the photos related to this story.
