ISAF Joint Command evening operational update
KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 11) – A combined Afghan and International Security Assistance Force operation, aimed at disrupting drug trafficking, discovered a narcotics cache in Achin district, Nangahar province, yesterday.
The operation seized 2,756 pounds (1,250 kgs) of a morphine-based product, 11 pounds (five kgs) of morphine, nine pounds (four kgs) of hashish and drug making equipment.
The narcotics were safely destroyed on site.
In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:
A combined Afghan and coalition force operation detained an insurgent leader in Mazar-e Sharif district, Balkh province, yesterday. The target of the operation was directly linked to anti-Afghan operations against ANSF and coalition forces in the province.
Also in Balkh province, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol detained several insurgents in Balkh district, Tuesday. The target of the operation was a network of insurgents who plan and conduct attacks against ANSF and coalition forces in the province. The detainees were taken in by Afghan forces for further questioning.
In Kandahar district, Kandahar province, today, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized 20 mortar propellants and 54 1.27 mm rounds. The munitions will be destroyed at a later date.
A combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache in Sangin district, Helmand province, today. The cache, discovered during a security operation, consisted of 200 12.7mm rounds, 22 pounds (ten kgs) of homemade explosive, 11 pounds (five kgs) of ammonium nitrate, 26 pressure plates, 37 batteries of various sizes and many improvised explosive device making materials. The cache was safely destroyed by security forces.
